Not necessarily new, but hot and here to stay is the fine art of self-publishing. While Echo Editions would love to publish your book for you, we realize that many authors just want to do it themselves! We understand this, and don't mind sharing our experience to help you achieve your dream. In fact, we are teaming up with others in the writing and publishing world to put together some helpful and succinct seminars for late Fall 2007. Check back with us in August for details!!
Google Library- Fair or Infrigement? In case you haven’t heard- Google has contracted to electronically scan the entire texts of books in large library collections. This scan plan includes books that are still protected by copyright (books with expired copyrights are now public domain and available for use by anyone). After the books have been scanned, Google will allow its users to search and use the entire texts of the books. On its face, this plan appears to mirror services that are offered by the libraries that house physical copies of the books. It is our opinion, however, that an operational Google Library will grossly interfere with the rights of copyright owners to control their protected works. This plan does not fall within the realm of Fair Use under the Copyright Act in sum because Google plans to use all parts of every work it copies and it is likely that readers and researchers who might otherwise buy physical copies of the books will find that what Google offers meets their needs and forego the purchase. The only guaranteed earner in this situation is Google—they’ll make plenty of cash selling ad space on the web pages dedicated to this service.
